WHY PROGRAM DIRECTORS?
Since the job program director came into existence in reform synagogues over 30 years ago, Congregation Beth Israel has embraced the position’s importance in the fabric of our institution’s life. We were the first reform synagogue to hire a program director and remain committed to the tradition. We are proud of the many programs that we offer our congregants and visitors and we know we could not boast such pride without the efforts of our own program director.
Program directors do more than just sit behind the desk and generate ideas for programs. The program director works extensively with clergy, professional staff and lay volunteers in ensuring that our programs mirror our mission and then some. This is no small feat. It involves countless meetings, phone calls and emails, and a good pair of running shoes. And don’t forget the artful skill of bringing consensus to the vast wealth of opinion that no doubt comes to the meeting table! At the end of the day, we are given programs that look effortless to produce, but are anything but effortless.
Visionary, master organizer, event planner, communications expert, people person, politician, are just a few of the hats worn by our program director. We could not do our job well without her.
